Clothing

Dress in layers for varying temperatures throughout the day. Morning and evenings can be cooler, even in warmer climates. Wear comfortable walking shoes or boots, as you’ll be on your feet for extended periods. Modest dress is required at religious sites: long pants for men, and skirts or long pants for women, with no sleeveless shirts. Bring a hat, sunglasses, and sunscreen for sun protection. A lightweight, waterproof jacket can be useful in case of rain.

Money

US currency is widely accepted in many places, but local currency can be obtained from ATMs for smaller transactions. Major credit cards are accepted for larger purchases, but it’s a good idea to carry small denominations for minor expenses, tips, and souvenirs. Inform your bank of your travel plans to avoid having your cards blocked for unusual activity.

Electricity

Bring adapters and converters for the 220-volt current used in the Middle East and Europe. Some appliances, such as laptops and cell phones, are dual voltage and may only require an adapter. Check the voltage requirements for each of your devices to determine if a converter is necessary. It’s also helpful to bring a power strip with multiple outlets for charging several devices simultaneously.
